Marketing, Centers, & the Not-Self

Every time you go to work on your marketing something comes up..

  • Perfectionism about the content
  • Waffling about what image to use
  • Fear or uncertainty around not knowing enough.
  • The shoulds about how you are supposed to show up

Whatever the reason. I want you to know it’s not your fault.

It’s the low expression or not-self of your centers rearing their ugly head.

And here’s the thing….

The not-self isn’t something you eliminate. It is something you learn to work with, to notice faster and to become aware of.

These flags on the field and how quickly you can notice them, name them and reframe them determine whether you rise above the low expression, excuses or shoulds.

Read through the content below to see the excuse, the why and how each of the centers present when in the not-self AND a micro deconditioning activity.

It does not matter the definition of the centers…you can be in the low expression of the defined, undefined or open centers – what matters is which one resonates.

Be sure to let me know in the which of your centers is showing up.

And if you want to the complete marketing centers content & macro deconditioning exercises order a HD Your Biz Catalyst Report. When you order a Catalyst Report during April you can get access to Business Design Day Live where I will be teaching the Design, Desires and Lifestyle for the first time – April 30th.

What my clients say:

“I wasn’t expecting much — but this report literally changed my life.”

I don’t give out testimonials easily — it takes something truly special to make me want to. I purchased Jamie’s Human Design report during one of the darker times in my life. I’d heard of Human Design before, but I was a skeptic. I didn’t think it would impact me the way others said it had impacted them. When I got the report, I’ll be honest — my ADHD saw how long it was and I shut down. But once I actually worked through it, it validated everything I thought no report could ever understand about me. It gave me a new sense of confidence showing up in my business and as myself.

This isn’t a report I used once and put away. I go back to it at least once a week. Whenever I’m making a decision and second-guessing myself, I pull it up — and every time, I see that the way I’m approaching things is exactly how I was designed. The more I lean into that, the easier life feels. Jamie did something powerful for me in a very dark time, and I’ll forever honor that. If you’re wondering whether to get it — go get it. I tell anyone who will listen. – Rose, 6/2 MG

Now Let’s Dive Into the Centers:

Head Center

The Excuse: “I just need a little more information. One more course. A bit more research.”

The Why: The Head is under pressure to generate insights and answers. In conditioning, it treats this pressure as an obligation to have everything figured out before speaking.

The How (Nervous System): Overwhelmed, frustrated, obsessive, resistant, skeptical of your own knowledge.

Deconditioning Micro-Practice: Set a 10-minute timer. Write one piece of content using only what you currently know — no research. Post it before you can edit it twice.

Ajna Center

The Excuse: “I’m not sure I actually know what I’m talking about. My ideas feel foggy.”

The Why: The Ajna isn’t here to be certain — it’s here to conceptualize and explore possibilities. In conditioning, it treats uncertainty like a stop sign instead of a starting point.

The How (Nervous System): Uncertain, anxious, foggy, indecisive, confused. Second-guessing at every draft.

Deconditioning Micro-Practice: Post something framed as a perspective or a question: “I’ve been sitting with this thought and I’m curious what you think…” Let go of the need to be right.

Throat Center

The Excuse: “Nobody is listening anyway. Social media feels like a black hole. I feel invisible.”

The Why: The Throat is the center of expression and manifestation. When conditioned — often by experiences of being silenced or told to quiet down — it stops expressing to protect itself from being ignored again.

The How (Nervous System): Withdrawn, invisible, unrecognized, unheard, homogenized, silenced.

Deconditioning Micro-Practice: Write or record a message to one specific person — your most ideal client. Forget the algorithm. Speak to one human.

Identity Center

The Excuse: “I should be further along. Who am I to post this? I don’t really have a clear sense of direction.”

The Why: The Identity center holds our love, direction, and sense of self. In conditioning, it loses connection to all three — leaving pervasive imposter syndrome and comparison to where we think we should be.

The How (Nervous System): Purposeless, defeated, unlovable, imposter syndrome, confidence struggles.

Deconditioning Micro-Practice: Write a post from your current season — not from ‘I’ve arrived,’ but from genuine present-moment truth. Your audience doesn’t need you ahead of them. They need you honest.

Heart Center

The Excuse: “My content isn’t good enough.” OR “I need to prove to everyone how good I am.”

The Why: The Heart holds self-worth, willpower, and the drive to prove. In conditioning, it swings between collapse (not enough) and over-inflation (must prove to everyone). Both are driven by the same wound: worth tied to performance.

The How (Nervous System): Unworthy, desperate, frantic, competitive for no reason, over-proving.

Deconditioning Micro-Practice: Post something today that you genuinely love — and consciously unattach from how it performs for 24 hours. One day of non-measurement.

Spleen Center

The Excuse: “I’m afraid to put content out there. I’m just going to stay in this holding pattern a little longer.”

The Why: The Spleen is the center of survival instinct. In conditioning, it turns its sensitivity toward fear — of failure, criticism, success, the unknown. Staying invisible feels safer than being seen.

The How (Nervous System): Frozen, crippled, holding on, letting fear drive decisions, feeling fundamentally inadequate.

Deconditioning Micro-Practice: Name the fear out loud. Write it on paper. Then write what you would post anyway. The Spleen in its high expression is built for spontaneous, in-the-moment sharing.

Sacral Center

The Excuse: “I haven’t been consistent lately. Now I have to explain why before I can start posting again.”

The Why: The Sacral is the center of life force and sustainability. In conditioning, it either burns out in frenzied over-work, or creates an impossibly awkward threshold to returning.

The How (Nervous System): Frenzied, fried, inconsistent, overwhelmed, unboundaried, deer-in-headlights energy.

Deconditioning Micro-Practice: Post one thing today about what you’re genuinely excited about. No explanation for your absence. No one is keeping score the way you think they are.

Solar Plexus Center

The Excuse: “I’m not in the mood to create today. There’s too much drama online.”

The Why: The Solar Plexus is the center of emotion, passion, and creativity. In conditioning, it disconnects from its muse, either going flat and uninspired or seeking emotional stimulation through dramatic content.

The How (Nervous System): Moody, hopeless, bored, dramatic, disconnected from creativity and passion.

Deconditioning Micro-Practice: Create something you genuinely enjoy — a voice note, a sketch, a video recorded in one take. Lead with the feeling. Let the strategy be secondary, just this once.

Root Center

The Excuse: “I need to be on every platform. I’m so far behind. I’ll just post to post.”

The Why: The Root holds urgency, pressure, and the drive to keep moving. In conditioning, it responds to that pressure by doing more — not because more is better, but because the pressure demands it.

The How (Nervous System): Burnt out, overwhelmed, rushed, unfocused, stressed, just checking the box.

Deconditioning Micro-Practice: Cancel one marketing obligation this week — the one that feels most like a ‘should.’ Notice how it feels to let it go.
